ESI is in a unique position to help you make and maintain a positive, professional impression throughout the interview. Based on our own interviews and feedback from our clients, we have assembled the following "impression management" guidelines.

» Make sure that you have researched the company and the hiring officials that you will meet.

» Plan to be at the interview at least 5 – 10 minutes early, since the company may have paperwork for you to complete, or an extensive security check-in process that will take several minutes.

» Bring a picture ID in case it is required for security check-in.

» Turn off your cell phone before you enter the building.

» Treat everyone—including security and administrative personnel—with respect and courtesy.

» Wear clothes and accessories that are professional and appropriate, even if the company has a casual dress policy. This typically means coat and tie for men, and conservative business suit or pantsuit for women. Make certain that your aftershave or perfume is discreet.

» Come prepared with the appropriate materials; these may include a professional portfolio, pen and paper, and a list of written questions you have for the interviewer (Using a Palm Pilot or similar device to take notes can be distracting and unreliable.)
